Green Beach, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA

    • Location: MCB Camp Pendleton
    • Agency: U.S. Navy
    • Project Value: $9,427,757.00

    Project Description

Reyes Construction Inc. Redesigned and realigned Beach Club Road and El Camino Real Road to provide access for military tactical vehicles to San Onofre Beach for training exercises. Beach Club Road was made to accommodate both general base traffic and tactical vehicle traffic. Beach Club Road was made to be a concrete paved road to provide access for military tracked and heavy vehicles to a maximum weight of 70 tons. The width of the road was made to be maximized for military vehicle access up to 50- feet wide (in some locations beneath the CALTRANS structures the maximum width is limited to 44 feet). El Camino Real Road has been realigned to maximize the width for Beach Club Road.

At the west end of Beach Club Road, Beach Club Road and the training road was separated so general base vehicle traffic has access to/from San Onofre Beach Campground Area and military tactical vehicles have direct access to the beach for training exercises. Military vehicles must have a minimum of 15 feet of vertical clearance at all points beneath the new railroad bridge. This may require the training road to be lowered beneath the bridge and a pump station to pump out accumulated rain and flood water. Electrical requirements for the new pump station included power and controls for a new non-clog sewage pump. The nearest power is at an existing sewage pump station near the northwest corner of the project. The pump force main will pump the treated water out onto a splash pad within the Environmental Assessment area.
