    Project Description

The SOF Range 130 Support project involved various improvements to the SOF Range 130 area including: a) design and construction of a new 9,690 SF Close Quarters Battle (CQB) Training Facility (also referred to as the ‘Shoot House’) with an adjacent Control Room; b) expansion of the existing Range 130D (referred to as the ‘Square Bay’) from 50 yards to 100 meters and increased capacity from 50 targets/lanes to 60 targets/lanes; and, c) construction of a new 900 SF Head/Shower/Laundry Facility.

The Shoot House was constructed for live-fire training utilizing up to 7.62 mm ball ammunition and designed to meet certification requirements in accordance with the latest Marine Corps Order. The rectangular structure was built with concrete spread footings, a ballistic floor slab, exterior solid-grouted CMU walls, and a series of non-load bearing interior partitions. The structure also includes a ballistic protection system with 10’ high and 6.5” thick walls (consisting of AR 500 steel plate with 2” thick ballistic rubber panels on each side of the plate) that allows for 360 degree live fire training while preventing bullet ricochet and splatter.  A structurally independent steel-framed canopy was also incorporated to provide shade, natural air circulation and ballistic containment in the event of misfires.
