    Project Description

    The Project scope included the construction of a reinforced concrete container wharf and backland development. The existing wharf was extended 383 feet in length by 120 feet in width and approximately 17 acres of backlands was developed for the China Shipping Line terminal. The work activities included demolition of the existing Catalina Express Cruise Terminal including asbestos and lead abatement; removal of existing waterborne marine structures; installation of underwater wick drains; furnishing and installing 114,000 TN of 12-inch minus rock containment dike material and 11,000 TN of A-250 armor stone; earthwork consisting of enclosing an engineered fill with surcharge dredge material; geotechnical monitoring; furnishing and driving 219 (each), 24-inch x 140’ long octagonal precast concrete piles;  furnish and install  24 (each) large (18 TN)  precast wharf/bridge girders; construct concrete wharf deck and appurtenances; furnish and install marine berthing fenders, and; furnish and install crane rails for wharf container cranes.   Over 16,000 CY of PCC paving storm drain system with storm separator unit, sewer system, water/ fire system, and electrical system with alternative maritime power (AMP) were also included.
